Ways to deal with depression

Unfortunately, depression is not as uncommon as we would like it to be. Right now approximately 20% of the population worldwide is diagnosed with clinical depression. Even more people are susceptible to other types of depression including seasonal or postpartum one. Although widespread, this disorder can be quite crippling and can impact the quality of the person’s life rather significantly. In this article, we present you three ways to deal with it!

1. Talk To Someone
Closing off and keeping it all inside is about the worst thing you can do, especially if you struggle with depression. No matter how much you don’t want to do it, you need to socialize. You need to spend time with people who care for you and can take your mind off the issue. You need to talk about your problems and feelings even if you despise the idea. It can be your significant other, one of your close friends, a member of your family, or even a therapist; moreover, it can be a stranger on the Internet! (Make sure they are willing to listen, though.) However, I strongly urge you to seek professional help as well — you friends can only do so much.

2. Find Entertainment
Avoid getting bored, for sulking on your own won’t do you any good. Make sure to find some sort of entertainment for when you have free time, and you are feeling particularly down. Read a book, watch a comedy, listen to your favorite music — or better yet watch a musical! — go to an amusement park or zoo. Take up a new hobby and enroll in dancing classes! Always wanted to make bowls and vases from clay? Pottery classes are very popular! Want to pretend to be someone else? Acting classes would be a great choice for you! It does not matter what you pick as long as it helps to lift your spirits and make you feel better.

3. Add Positivity To Your Life
Try to set some goals for yourself every single day. It will motivate you to move forward and achieve something. Always make sure your day results in something good or brings a positive change in your life and the life of others. It will both make the world a better place and make you feel productive and accomplished. Help someone, enroll into a volunteering program, visit a local shelter, help to feed homeless, donate to charity, visit orphans or disabled kids, help out in a retirement home. These activities will simultaneously fill in some of your spare time, make you feel better, and improve the world around you, and it is a truly beautiful thing. However, the positivity in your life does not necessarily need to be so global. Any activity which brings you joy can be applied.

A shopping trip, a visit to a fashion hair salon, a family meetup, a new experience — all of these are the means to bring something good in your life!
Follow these simple recommendations if you struggle with depression!
